Recently my female chi came down with pyometra. I was hoping it wasn't anything too serious as I had recently had several unforeseeable expenses, but learned that it was serious and my girl would need help soon. I left the examination office in tears, overwhelmed by her situation and another expense. When I went up to the desk to check out and pay, the girl that was there saw my state and smiled, then put her head down. I got the impression she thought it was funny, but I said nothing, paid, and left.
After the surgery, when I went to pick up my girl, one of the staff ladies had a talk with me. She asked me if I knew that my girl's teeth were very loose.I told her yes I knew, that I took her in for that, which I had a couple months back, and that the vet didn't want to take them out because of anethesia and her liver shunt. She said they were falling out during surgery.
They care on a personal way. Because of them my cat is alive. 5 years ago she was leaving me. Because of them she is 27 years old Ann's still gong. They are there for my puppy, 5 yr old cat and our new baby cat.
Later that same lady spoke with me in the examination room about my girl being thin. I tried to explain to her that it is surely not for not eating because this girl has a healthy appetite and eats a lot. I told her that she has a liver shunt. I don't think she knows much about them because she just kept talking like I don't feed my dog enough. I told her how she loves her Royal Canine food, absolutely loves it, and has a healthy appetite. She went on to tell me that they have problems with dog's liking that stuff. I don't think she believed me, and I know I shouldn't care, but it is hurtful to know how much you have sacrificed for your own pets, for their welfare, and ignorance treats you like you are negligent.
My girl has lived a good, happy five years under medical management of a liver shunt, mainly watching what she eats. I am greatly to the animal hospital that taught me much about the condition and caring for her.
That said, I would never be angry at anyone who is concerned about the welfare of my pets. I take them to the vet when I think there is a problem and their records would reflect that. Sometimes I feel silly about some things I take them in for, but I rather be safe than sorry.
I have no complaints otherwise and beyond a couple things, I have overall been very happy with Newman's and will continue to recommend them. They even appeared to cut me a break this last time out on expenses, which I am grateful. Just my last few visits were just very uncomfortable and I am looking to find another office.
That said, I am looking for a new Newman office to take my chi's too. My situation is not the same from when I first started going to Newman's. I left my job to care for my parents so they would not have to be put in a nursing home. Pa has since passed, and it's now myself and mom. I live off the minimal money I now make. Parents have given me whatever I need and very generous in that sense, and pa left mom well off, but it is important to me not to ask for anything unless I have no other recourse.
I've been taking my two chi's to Newman's in Sanford for years. They've had a few changes in vets, but I have found them all helpful and informative in their own way. I recommend them to anyone that's looking for a vet. I think the clinics and service is great.
Very friendly place. My dog is confortable with the stuff. She loves her veterinarian
We love this vet! We have taken both our dogs there for almost 2 years and we always have great service and attention to our dogs. I always refer this vet to my friends and colleagues!
I didn't go on, but as the vet will confirm, his words to me were that she has gingivitis due to her shunt condition. He said that normally they would do anethesia and take them out, but considering the shunt, he doesn't want to go that way and his words, "Just let them fall out."
After about a week my girl's discharge would not stop with antibiotics, although beyond that she was a happy, normal acting girl and was eating as if she was eating for ten. If I didn't know better I would think she was pregnant, but the discharge would not stop so I ended taking a good portion of the payment from mom, who had said she would pay for it all if need be. She loves my dogs too.
Kiki and Dash just love Jeff their Doctor and I feel that the care they get is the very best. Thank you Dr. Ruben
